A senior gynaecologist, who was picked to replace Lilly Koros as the chief executive officer (CEO) at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), has turned down the offer.
Dr John Ong’ech, who was appointed by Health CS Sicily Kariuki in an acting capacity after the exit of Koros, declined the offer citing cartels in the organization who want to control the budget.
Dr Onge’ch added that politics were at play at KNH which he didn’t want to get involved in.
“This is a job of managing a budget of almost Sh15 billion per year and 4,000 staff. It also has unlimited access to power and influence.
“I declined based on the history of previous CEOs who did not have a good ending,” Dr Ong’ech was quoted by the Daily Nation.
CS Sicily Kariuki orders Koros to go on compulsory leave
The KNH position fell vacant after Health CS Kariuki ordered Koros, who was the CEO, to go on compulsory leave.
The decision was arrived at after a mix-up up in the hospital which saw a surgery performed on the wrong patient.
Prior to that, claims of rape allegations at the hospital were rife before a baby was stolen from the institution to pile more pressure on Koros.
Motion to impeach CS Kariuki initiated
However, a section of Jubilee MPs from Rift Valley was unhappy with Kariuki’s decision and have now signed a motion to impeach her.
Reports indicate that both NASA and Jubilee legislators have ganged up with over 100 signing the motion.
DP William Ruto is said to have intervened and requested the MPs to drop their quest.
