Anger As Governor Nyong’o Is Inspected By G4s Guard While Receiving Obama

Kenyans have reacted with anger to a photo of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o being frisked by a G4S security guard manning the gates of Sauti Kuu Foundation that will on Monday be launched by former US President Barack Obama.
Nyong’o, who officially received President Obama at Kisumu International Airport, was not spared security checks when he later made his way to Kogello where the main event will be held.

Although Obama enjoys Secret Service security, most of the high profile dignitaries were frisked by civilian security guards from G4S.

While Nyong’o complied with the search without drama, Kenyans not impressed by the treatment of the Kisumu county boss.

“Unusual protection not even accorded to own self,” Abdi Issak said on Twitter.

Eric Munyao said that Nyong’o’s treatment was unfair amounted to neocolonialism arguing that he posed no security risk.
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, declined to be frisked, stating that he was the one hosting Obama.

Journalists at Pulse Live Kenya were also in agreement in their displeasure of the treatment accorded to the local leaders.

Fred Kiarie criticised the organisers of the event, saying the security frisking of local leaders appeared to demean their status.

“How can you host someone and they come to subject you to a security risk? That’s not a good attitude,” Martin Wachira said of the incident.
