Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino is on record launching several scathing attacks against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But after the handshake between Mr Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga, things seemed to have changed and he now speaks well of the Head of State.
On Monday, however, Mr Owino ignited a political fight with Deputy President William Ruto during the burial of Migori Senator Ben Oluoh Okello.
In his speech, the Embakasi MP delved into the politics of debt repayments, where the narrative has been that President Kenyatta ought to rally behind DP Ruto in the 2022 General Election in a bid to pay back for the support he (Ruto) showed him in the two previous polls.
Babu stated that if debts were to be paid, it should start from the era of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga then move to the regime of former President Mwai Kibaki, who was supported by Mr Odinga in 2022 polls.
On the eve of Kenya’s independence, Jaramongi was given the offer to become Kenya’s first Prime Minister by Governor Sir Patrick Renison, one of the colonialist.
However, he refused and demanded the release of Mzee Kenyatta who had been detained.
“If I accept your offer, I will be seen as a traitor to my people. The British cannot elect me leader to my people … Kenyatta is around, just here in Lodwar. Release him and allow him to lead us; he is already our choice,” Jaramogi is quoted as saying during the meeting that took place at State House.
Babu told Ruto that if the political debt was what will determine who the next president will be, then he should wait on the queue because previous debts had not yet been settled.
“The debt between Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, it has not been paid. The next one is between Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga, it has not been paid yet. I know you have a debt to pay to DP Ruto but he should wait on the lin because all the other debts have not been paid yet and they must be paid,” he said.
DP Ruto is on record stating that President Kenyatta does not owe him anything.
