“I’ve Never Met My Father And I Don’t Feel The Gap,” Mammito

Churchill show comedian Mammito has shared the intense encounters she experienced experiencing childhood in Kibra and being raised by a single parent.

Mammitto, whose official name is Eunice Wanjiru Njoki, said she had to drop out from boarding school for a while because her mother could not afford to pay her school fees on time.

During an interview with Radio Jambo on Friday, Mammito said: ‘Nililelewa Kwa shida’

This translates to:

I WAS RAISED IN HARDSHIP

She narrated:

I HAD TO LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL FOR A WHILE BECAUSE MY SCHOOL FEES WAS NOT PAID. I REMEMBER GOING HOME TO FIND MY MOTHER CRYING BECAUSE SHE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR MY SCHOOL FEES.

She said her mum’s strictness was a bid to make sure that Mammito and her two siblings did not end up in crime.

Mammito said her mum was hardworking. Even though she was raised by a single parent, the Churchill show comedian said she has never felt the gap of not having a father.

She said: “Mimi sijawahi jua baba yangu wala sijawahi sikia ile pengo ya kuwa sina baba mzazi. Sipendi kurudisha mama yangu nyuma kwa kumuuliza maswali hayo. Inaweza kuwa alipitia changamoto nyingi ndio maana waliachana.”

This translates to:

I HAVE NEVER KNOWN MY FATHER AND I DON’T FEEL THE GAP OF NOT HAVING HIM IN MY LIFE. I WOULDN’T LIKE TO BOTHER MY MUM BY ASKING HER ABOUT HIM. MAYBE THEY HAD ISSUES AND THAT’S WHY THEY ARE NOT TOGETHER.

Mammito realised her talent in comedy after several beatings from her mother. She said,

I USED TO MIMIC THE LATE MZEE OJWANG’S CRY EVERY TIME MY MOTHER GAVE ME A BEATING.

She continued:

I BEGAN MY COMEDY CAREER WHEN I WAS 22

Mammito attended Laini Saba Primary School and later Gatero Girls High School in Nyahururu up to form three and then Silanga Mixed Secondary in Kibera where she sat her KCSE exam.

She pursued Community Development Bachelor’s Degree at Mount Kenya University.
