Former Kenya Power CEO Ben Chumo has been arrested on suspicion of committing economic crimes.
In an announcement on Twitter on Saturday, the DCI said he was apprehended alongside Beatrice Meso and Peter Mwicigi.
Meso is the General Manager of Corporate Affairs as well the company secretary while Mwicigi is the Regional Coordination GM.
“They are to be charged with offences [including] conspiring to commit an economic crime, fraudulent acquisition of public property, aiding commission of a felony, abuse of office and willful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement.”
The agency said investigators were “hot on the heels” of other suspects.
On June 27, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Chumo as chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
Chumo is expected to take over from Sarah Serem whose term ended last December.
The nominee will be vetted on July 23 by the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning at 9 am.
He is expected to carry a letter or certificates of clearance and compliance from EACC, KRA, HELB, Criminal Investigations Department and any of the credit reference Bureaus.
