Following the tragedy, many leaders have come forward to send their condolences among them Deputy President William Ruto who tweeted “Heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of Weldon Cheruiyot of Kenene International and his troupe following a tragic road crash last evening. We also mourn with those who lost their loved ones in the accident at Moinonin.”
Speaking from Bomet County Weldon Cheruiyot’s mum Josephine Ngeno said that Kanene’s death had not only shattered the lives of their family but also broke the hearts of many Kenyans.
“Kanene ni wa Kenya mzima si wangu pekee nimelia sana mpaka saa hii.” A grief-stricken Josephine said. (Kanene belonged to all of us and I have not stopped crying since I learnt of his passing.)
She also revealed to NTV that when Kenene was around they never lacked anything. “Amesaidia watoto wangu kwa kila kitu.Hakuna kitu tumenunua hata siku moja. Nimetumiwa pesa kutoka kila kona hakuna pesa nimetoa kutoka kwa mfuko wangu. Hata M-Pesa ni pesa ya Kanene nilikuwa natoa.” (He helped his family in all ways possible, we never had to reach into our pockets for anything. He has sent me money from all areas, I never lacked. Even if it was an M-Pesa message I knew it was from Kanene.)
“Mimi nasikia uchungu sana. Sasa tutatoa mtu mwingine kama Kenene wapi?” She cried. (I am in so much pain, where will we get another person like Kenene?)
