ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday endorsed KTN’sveteran journalist Rashid Ronald to vie for a parliamentary seat in Migori County.
During his visit in Migori, Odinga, in a rather dramatic style, is said to have declared the KTN journalist the right candidate to vie as the Member of Parliament (MP) in Kuria West on an ODM ticket.
According to a local daily, drama started when all the aspirants eyeing the Kuria West seat were invited to address the audience.
The locals compelled the KTN journalist, who was covering the event, to stop and join Odinga on the podium.
Upon his arrival to the podium, Odinga raised his hand and said, “Unatosha kuwa mbunge,” (You are fit to be an MP).
Odinga’s actions sparked excitement among members of the crowd who begun singing and chanting Ronald’s name.
The other aspirants who had been called to the podium were not given a chance to address the audience. Locals argued that he had been blessed by the former Prime Minister and would be given a direct ODM ticket.
It was established that the journalist seemed to have accepted the endorsement by sharing photos of the meeting and posts of those declaring him to be the Kuria west MP.
Rashid is among the veteran broadcast journalists at KTN and the Nyanza regional reporter for the giant media house.
Speculations have been rife that another journalist from the media house, Mohammed Ali could soon join politics.
